Why is sterilization important?

What happens during a campaign?

Step 1 - Collect information

We try to sterilize all cats and spay all dogs within a village and therefore go from house to house to make a list (owner’s name, mobile number, transport and number of animals).

Step 2 - Make an appointment

A date and time for the day of sterilization is set for all owners who are on the list.

Step 3 - Transport to the veterinary clinic

Preferably the owners themselves bring their cats and dogs to the veterinary clinic, otherwise we help them by picking up the animals and bringing them to the veterinary clinic.

Step 4 - Signature for authorisation form

The owners leave their ID number and a signature for our files, and sign the authorization form for the sterilization.

Step 5 - The dogs are weighed

Before the operation, the dogs are weighed. Besides medical reasons, the weight also determines the cost of the surgery. The cats are not weighed.

Step 6 - Collars / Labeling

Each dog will get a collar, which will be inscribed with the owner’s name, cell phone number, and the dog’s weight in order to distinguish the dogs. The cat boxes will be labeled with the owner’s name and cell phone number so that there is no risk of confusion.

Step 7 - Preparation for surgery

The animals are anesthetized and prepared for surgery.

Step 8 - The operation

The animals are sterilized and the operation takes about 10-30 minutes.

Step 9 - Ready to go home

The animals wake up from anesthesia and the owners are contacted when the animals are ready to go home. Antibiotics, pain medication and a wound ointment (with instructions and information) are given to the owners.
